Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austin

Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austin

Jane Austen was a visionary. She was capable of being funny, intuitive, romantic and witty all at the same time. She wrote innocuously enough but she has that ability that makes the characters come alive - her women are simultaneously different but capable of surviving as tropes as well. Her books are so fulfilling, much like a movie which cannot be typecast into one genre, but fits everywhere without trying to be everything. Her books also feel different as you yourself change. At a certain age you feel differently about the books, and as you grow up and change, your feelings mutate. You will never be bored by an Austen novel. Pride and Prejudice has always been a favourite, mainly because it can be read it more than once. Lizzie Bennet is a feminist guide while simultaneously teaching many that it is alright not to always feel the same and not to live life in platitudes. The second reason may be that its immense popularity in popular culture and the great joy that can be found in comparing and contrasting the different versions. Keira Knightly is very beautiful but Lizzie she is not. The genius of Death comes to Pemberley and the fun of Lizzie Bennet Diaries are only very very few examples of what lovers of Austen are doing with Pride and Prejudice.
